Amped Wireless RTA15 Router Will Stream HD and 4K
The new long-range 802.11AC router will start shipping later this month.

WiFi routers aren’t exactly the most exciting part of the Electronic House setup. However, Amped Wireless is hoping to create a little buzz for the category with its new RTA15 router.

The hook on the company’s latest is that this is a 700mW dual-band, 802.11ac WiFi router, with support for both high-def and 4K content. It also allows for multiple users, so the entire family can be downloading and streaming up a storm, all at the same time.

It does that using three high-gain, 5dBi antennas and 10 total power amplifiers—the most of any Amped Wireless WiFi product. That lineup includes two 2.4GHz 700mW amplifiers, four 5.0GHz 700mW, 2-stage amplifiers, and four low-noise amplifiers.

Other RTA15 features include a USB port for file sharing and five gigabit wired ports for connecting to broadband or other wired devices. It also has WiFi Analytic Tool Apps and options for guest networks, adjustable WiFi coverage, parental security, and IPv6 Internet connections.

This means faster streaming, downloading and web browsing with your Mac or PC laptop or desktop throughout your entire home, backyard or office,” said Jason Owen, CEO of Amped Wireless. “With 802.11ac standard ratifying in 2013, consumers can have a more dynamic wireless network, an Amped Wireless 802.11ac based-network will deliver industry leading coverage with up to three times the speed and range of past solutions.”

Amped Wireless has started taking pre-orders for the RTA15, which has an MSRP $189.99. Orders made at the company’s online store will start shipping on July 16, with availability from other retailers coming later this month.
