Deal: Harmony 659, WDTV Mini Media Player - $39, $59 Today
NewEgg has great today-only deals on these versatile products if you're looking for a universal remote or streaming media player.
November 02, 2009 | by Stephen Hopkins

I’m not sure if NewEgg is just ramping up as Black Friday approaches, but they’re having a heck of a day when it comes to Home Theater deals.

First, as the morning/afternoon segment of their daily Shell Shocker available until 4 p.m. EST today, November 2, you can grab a new (not refurbished) Harmony 659 activity based remote for $39.99 with free shipping. This is a slightly older Harmony model and lacks the color touch screen and charging dock of the One and 900. That said, I really like that the most used activities (Watch a Movie, Watch TV, Listen to Music) are given hard buttons above the LCD. Harmony remotes offer pretty much the easiest yet most robust programmability and automation of any universal remote solution outside of the Custom Installer space. Also, since it uses AAA batteries, you can make this Harmony RF capable using the Next Generation Remote Extender

The second half of today’s Shell Shocker, available from 4 p.m. until 3 a.m. tomorrow, is the WDTV Mini media player for $59.99 with free shipping. This is an extremely basic unit only capable of 720p & 1080i output over component video, but it will play nearly any file type you can throw at it. If you’re looking for simple file playback without network or streaming features, this will do the job exceedingly well with minimal complication from unwanted ancillary features.

Lastly, the Polk Monitor 60 floorstanding loudspeakers are back on sale for $109/ea with free shipping after coupon code EMCMLNV62. These are the larger sibling of the Monitor 50s that pop up on sale frequently and would be a great upgrade over the little brother for anyone doing much 2-channel music listening without a subwoofer. These sport three 5.25” drivers, a 1” silk/polymer dome tweeter, and bass extension down to 38 Hz. The matching CS1 and CS2 center speakers are currently $99 and $149 each, but those too go on sale frequently, so just keep your ear to the ground (or tuned in to ElectronicHouse.com).

why does the sub caption read “streaming media player” while part 2 (para. 3 of the article) reads “without network or streaming features”?
