One of the best features of my house is its windows. The amazing amount of glass around the entire perimeter is what attracted me initially to it. But as much as I like the views and fresh breezes they provide, there are times when I wish I didn’t have to fiddle with them so much … and thanks to technology I don’t, and neither do you.
Fitted with electronic hardware windows can open and close automatically based on the time of day or the weather conditions. Motorized window treatments can do the same by open and closing when it’s appropriate. There are also windows that can go from clear to opaque for privacy and ways to harvest the sunlight from automated skylights. There’s even a clever little device—that can wash your windows.
When you pair technology with a skilled custom electronics (CE) professional, your windows can do all kinds of wonderful tricks. Here are some shining examples from our recent Home of the Year contest.
