The Palace

As a kid, Tom Kern spent a lot of Saturday mornings at the Palace Theater, a movie theater that was just two blocks from his house. Now, he doesn’t even have to travel that far to enjoy one of the classics or even a brand-new blockbuster. Tom built this replica ‘50s-style cinema right in his basement. It has a 92-inch Da-Lite screen, a Sanyo projector, B&W speakers, and two separate motorized drapery systems. However, the most eye-catching part of the room is the decor, which Tom spent three years collecting through eBay and his travels across the country. Besides movie posters and fabric wall panels, the room also includes an authentic 1940s ticket collection box, a vintage illuminated exit sign, and real theater seats.
