Samsung Disc to Digital

Samsung announced its own Disc to Digital service back in January, at the Consumer Electronics Show. Designed as a feature for the company’s 2012 Smart Blu-ray players, the service is expected to launch later this year with the help of partners Flixster and Rovi. According to Samsung, it works the same as Walmart’s service, but without the trip to the store. Since the service has yet to launch, details and pricing are a little fuzzy. For instance, the original announcement says that users will need an “eligible physical disc.” While it’s unclear what that means, we do know that users will need both UltraViolet and Flixster accounts to access the content.

Price: Varies, depending on the cost of the player.
The Buzz: “I am pretty sure that they won’t magically ‘give’ you an ultraviolet copy/license just because you already own the DVD. They may sell it to you at a reduced price.” — User Fastfwd75, The Verge
