The Bodyguard

When Whitney Houston unexpectedly died last month at the age of 48, she was looking to make a film comeback with Sparkle. Of course, her crowning cinematic achievement will always be this 1992 film, which features Kevin Coster and one of Houston’s best-loved ballads.

It only took Warner Bros. a little over a month to crank out a Blu-ray release of the film, and frankly, they should have taken a breath and a little more time with it. Besides a less than stellar 1.78:1 transfer, the film has almost non-existent extras. There’s a trailer, a music video and the making-of “Memories of The Bodyguard.” That last one isn’t something new, though. It just seems like a lot of wasted opportunity.

Rating: R
Runtime: 129 minutes
