Disney had extremely high hopes for this film. Unfortunately, they just didn’t have a good marketing plan. As a result, the film flopped at the box office, but we have a hunch that the fantastic sci-fi journey will find new life on Blu-ray. Also, it’s hard to say “no” to such a great cast, which includes Taylor Kitsch, Mark Strong, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, and Thomas Haden Church.
Even if you aren’t into taking a sci-fi trip to Mars, this release offers up a stellar 2.40:1 transfer and an equally impressive DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track. Add in 3D, and you have a package that’s hard to pass up. Special features include Disney Second Screen, behind-the-scenes peeks, commentary, and deleted scenes. Two of the gems include “360 Degrees of John Carter” and “100 Years in the Making.” Also know that there are two versions of this set available: a 4-disc set with a 3D Blu-ray of the film, a 2D Blu-ray, a standard-def DVD and a Digital Copy; and a 2-disc 2D set, which drops the 3D and Digital Copy discs.
Rating: PG-13
