This 1952 classic stars Gene Kelly as Don Lockwood, a silent film star dealing with the advent of “talkies” and a misguided on-screen love interest. Besides a slew of classic songs (including the title number), the musical comedy stars Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen, Cyd Charisse, and Rita Moreno.
Warner Bros. is celebrating this birthday with two Blu-ray releases. Both have a 1.37:1 aspect ratio and a DTS-HD Master Audio track. The single-disc version includes commentary from the stars, the all-new doc “Singin’ in the Rain: Raining on a New Generation,” outtakes and more.
The “Ultimate Collector’s Edition” packs the same Blu-ray and two standard-def DVDs into a special box. All three discs have special features, with one of the DVDs being extras only. Look for additional outtakes, multiple featurettes about the music, and much more. That box also includes a 48-page hardcover book, mini posters, and a full-size Singin’ in the Rain-themed umbrella.
