Recently several news stories have reported that Apple has experienced sales increases of approximately 170 percent for its Apple TV product. According to these reports the company has sold more than 4 million of these devices, and rumors fly that Apple TV maybe the beginning of something bigger from the Cupertino, Calif. Company. There aren’t many ways to upgrade the performance of an Apple TV, but the Massachusetts-based cable company Nordost does offer Apple TV owners its Purple Flare (C-7) power cable that does take some of the digital bite out of the device’s digital sounding audio performance. Listening to iTunes downloads via my Apple TV of music from Sara Bareilles and Train, I thought the soundstage tightened up and some of that digital edginess had been smoothed out. For video, I found the images to be a little more stable and perhaps slightly brighter. A 1-meter Purple Flare retails for about $150.
