The Royal Tenenbaums

Director Wes Anderson’s third outing is actually his most star-packed, with the likes of Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller and Luke Wilson all playing the bizarre Tenenbaum family. Also look for plenty of famous “outsiders,” too, such as Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Danny Glover.

Criterion is finally giving this wonderful film a high-def release. Considering the quality of the DVD, it’s long overdue. The 2.40:1 transfer and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track are a very nice upgrade, but don’t expect any new extras. The interviews and commentary, the “With the Filmmaker” short, and all of the other special features are good, but still pickups from the DVD release.
