This is the second of two films we’ve seen this year about the fairytale princess. However, this beauty is no damsel in distress; it’s Twilight star Kristen Stewart. The film has been plagued by tabloid stories about its young star and director Rupert Sanders. However, the real spotlight should go to Charlize Theron, who is devilishly good as the wicked Queen Ravenna.
Expect a sharp, CGI-filled 2.35:1 image on this one. The dialogue is a bit low, but the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track rumbles with lots of wonderful sound effects. The 2-disc set includes theatrical and extended versions of the film, as well as commentary, a Picture-in-Picture track, and the option for Second Screen using your PC, tablet or smartphone. Other featurettes cover the cast, the kingdom, the inspiration and the special effects. The set also packs in a standard-def DVD, a Digital Copy and an UltraViolet Digital Copy.
