Director Tim Burton seems to have found a film partner for life in Johnny Depp. This obscure, incredibly cool depiction of the “worst director of all time” is probably the duo’s best collaboration. Depp knows how to wear the director’s big goofy grin—as well as his wardrobe of ladies’ wear. Martin Landau got an Oscar for his portrayal of an aging Bela Lugosi. Sarah Jessica Parker and Bill Murray also star.
Disney didn’t exactly go all out for this single-disc Blu-ray. It includes a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, and all of the extras from the 2004 DVD release. Those special features include deleted scenes, a music video, a piece on Landau’s Lugosi transformation, and more. The gem of the lot is probably the commentary. Depp is notably absent, but it does include a lot of great input from Burton and Landau, as well as co-writers Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander, director of photography Stefan Czapsky and costume designer Colleen Atwood.
