What’s truly amazing is that just 10 years after 2002’s successful Spider-Man, Sony decided to reboot this entire franchise. If you saw that film, there will be some familiar moments here, as our hero tries to get a grip on his newfound superpowers. This time, Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) is donning Spidey’s tights, romancing Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) and battling the Lizard (Rhys Ifans).
Sony will release three versions of this blockbuster, starting this Friday. There’s a 3-disc 2D set, a 4-disc 3D set, and a 4-disc 3D set that comes with a bunch of super-cool little figurines. All three have a 2.40:1 image, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, a standard-def DVD and an UltraViolet Digital Copy. The 3D set has a 3D disc, which includes commentary and two 3D-specific features. All of the sets have a 2D Blu-ray and an entire Blu-ray disc of special features, which packs in deleted scenes, storyboards, and a ton of other goodies. The best of the bunch is definitely the seven-part documentary, which covers every aspect of the production, including why the studio decided to reboot in the first place.
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 136 minutes
Total Number of Discs: 3 (2D version), 4 (3D version)
Studio: Sony
Editor’s Note: This title will be released on Friday, November 9, 2012.
