Heaven's Gate

To date, this film stands as one of the biggest box-office bombs of all time. However, it recently got a bit of redemption, when a pair of 2012 film festival dates found audiences saying that the film wasn’t that bad. In fact, they found this western to be pretty darn good. Some of the accolades should go to the cast, which includes Kris Kristofferson, Christopher Walken, Isabelle Huppert, Jeff Bridges, John Hurt, Sam Waterston, Brad Dourif, Mickey Rourke, Terry O’Quinn, and countless others. After all, haven’t they suffered enough?

It took audiences over 30 years to appreciate the film, but it didn’t take Criterion long to put out a Blu-ray. Expect this 2-disc release to include the film’s original 2.39:1 aspect ratio, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track, and an entire Blu-ray of extras. Some of those special features include a short on the restoration process, a piece with director Michael Cimino and producer Joann Carelli, a spotlight on Kristofferson, and several other interviews.
